CMC, Sodium Carboxymethyl Cellulose, which is water-soluble hydrophilic colloid, is a derivative of ether structure obtained from natural cellulose by chemical modification.

Jansen from German invented CMC and got this patent in 1918. In 40s, CMC was produced in large scale. And CMC was produced in China from 1956. Due to some functions of CMC, such as thickening, adhesion, film, suspension, moisture and protection glue, it is widely used in detergent, food, textile, personal care product, dyeing, printing, paper making, petroleum, mining, ceramics and other industries.
